Gaeseongjip in Namyangju Korea - Mandu Guk (Korean Dumpling Soup)

 

Have you heard about Mandu Guk?

 

"Mandoo Guk (만둣국 in Korean)" is a Korean Dumpling Soup which is quite famous among Korean people. Mandu is Korean dumplings which are different from other dumplings as there are cabbage, tofu and kimchi in Mandu.

 

Mandu Guk is made with mandu and a beef stock. As it is one of the most popular Korean foods, I am going to show you one of the famous restaurants of Mandu Guk.

It is "Gaeseongjip (개성집 in Korean)" which is located in Namyangju. As we previously showed several places in Namyangju, you may know well that Namyangju is near Seoul so you may be able to enjoy driving to Namyangju.

 

Gaeseongjip is introduced in a TV program called "Wednesday Food Talk (수요미식회 in Korea)" which is famous for introducing a special and unique restaurants in Korea. Gaeseongjip was already a well-known restaurant as it has been operated for about 30 years (since 1991) and the previous president Kim Young Sam and his wife visited the restaurant. 

 

In Gaeseongjip, you can find various kinds of North Korean style Mandu Guk menus. There are menus of Mandu Guk (Basic Dumplings Soup), Tteok Mandu Guk (Rice Cakes and Dumplings Soup), and Kal Mandu Guk (Noodles and Dumplings Soup) at Gaeseongjip. A photo below shows Kal Mandu Guk which includes noodles and dumplings in the soup.

 

Also, there is a menu of Jjin Mandu which are steamed dumplings and Mandoo Jeongol which is a Korean hot pot with dumplings. We have previously introduced Mandu Jeongol so you can refer to our previous posting for the details (The link for previous posting is attached below).

 

You can also find Kalguksu and Cucumber Kimchi Noodles. Kimchi noodles are also common additions to Mandu Guk.

 

As Gaeseongjip is a well-known restaurant for Mandu Guk and Cucumber Kimchi Noodles, we recommend this place to try a special taste of Korean food.
