Voting for parliamentary elections on April 15

There will be voting for parliamentary elections on 15th of April in South Korea. The parliamentary elections will be held at approximately 14,000 polling booths in Korea.

 

As the parliamentary elections are held in the midst of Coronavirus situation, the government urged voters to wear face masks and keep a distance from other voters at least 1 meter while waiting to vote. Additionally, voters will have their temperature checks at the entrance of the voting place. Voters with temperature over 37.5 degrees celsius or who have any symtoms of Coronavirus infections will cast ballots in a separate polling booths under the guidance. 

 

Eligible voters will cast ballots at the designated polling booths located near their house from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Voters will vote after applying the hand sanitizers on their hands and wearing plastic gloves. 

 

People who have symptoms and are isolated are asked whether they will cast ballots on Wednesday via test message and if they respond to it, they will be allowed to vote from 5:20 p.m. to 7 p.m. They have to get to the voting place by 6 p.m. to get ready for voting.   

 

There were two days of early voting for parliamentary elections on last Friday and Saturday and 26.69 percent of the total number of eligible voters had voted for parliamentary elections. This is two times that the voters participating for the early voting compared to the same time in the parliamentary elections in 2016. This is the highest participation of voters in early voting since 2014 when the early voting for national elections initially started.

 

The legal voting age is 18 in Korea. This eligible voting age was lowered from 19 to 18 in December 2019.
